gm gm everyone, and happy Wednesday! It’s been a few months since I wrote up my previous primers on the @killabearsnft ecosystem, so with so much having occured since then, I felt it was only fitting to make today’s edition The Killabears Primer Part 5!

If you missed the previous four primers (yes, that’s how awesome this ecosystem is), then I highly, highly recommend you checking those out below!
The goal here is to pick up after A Killabear Primer (Part 4), and include details on all of the stuff that’s happened since that was written, such as:
Memo’s Open Editions
Killascore
Killabear Socks
Scannerizer
Without further ado, let’s get into it, but first, set a reminder to attend today’s KillaNews spaces 👇

The Killa Chronicles
The KillaChronicles are a relatively new addition to the Killaverse, and I went into detail on my thoughts behind them in this newsletter that came out February 1st:
If you didn’t want to read that whole newsletter, my thoughts on the KillaChronicles Open Editions were effectively this prior to launch:
While it feels like most artists are utilizing open editions at the moment for one reason or another, to my knowledge this is the first actual big NFT project to do so officially - and it’s brilliant for a multitude of reasons.
Cheap Entry for New Members
First, the open edition price is only 0.02 eth, or around $32 USD. For ~30 bucks, people are going to be granted entry into the Killabears ecosystem - you know Ben and the team always make sure “everything is connected.” That means that holders of this open edition will almost certainly hold some role or benefit in the Killaverse.
A New Asset for Existing Holders
Secondly, with the whole idea being that everything is connected, this offers another way for the team to reward existing holders by creating a new asset in the ecosystem that can be interacted with. We saw the creative things they did with merch - buy a hoodie, get free Killatraits - so I can only imagine what tricks up their sleeve they have with this one.
Ingenious Fundraising
Last, but certainly not least, this is an absolutely brilliant fundraising method by Ben and the Killabears team. By taking advantage of the Open Edition meta and leveraging their in-house artist Memo, Killabears put themselves in the front of the pack by offering something that I would guarantee you other project community members would want to take advantage of - art from their favorite project’s artists.
When you see what @Ness_Graphics did in terms of the amount of money he raised with his OE, and then you consider the reach that some of these NFT projects have - I imagine we will see some other projects copying Killabears very shortly.
When all was said and done, almost 50k of these open editions were minted. For those of you who aren’t into doing the manual math, 49,268 x 0.02 is 985.36 eth, for a total of around 1,743,101 USD as of the writing of this newsletter.
After the first OE sale, the team then offered two chances to burn your open editions - first, by burning two Volume 1s to get a single Volume 2, and then by burning two Volume 2s to get a single Volume 3.
You were also dropped a “Burn Card,” which keeps track of how many Open Editions you’ve burned so far at each tier.
If you ended up burning 64 entire editions, you even received a special item - Volume 69, a golden edition of Volume 1 signed by Memo himself! Similarly, if you burned 64 editions of Volume 2, you also were rewarded with another Golden Volume!
While there has been some things teased as to how these volumes may be used in the future, the team has already made them a vital part of the Killabear ecosystem by introducing the…

KillaSocks
On March 17th, the Killabears team dropped cozy socks to all OG Bear holders.

You may recognize these socks as thematic lately since Doodles got in trouble for offering socks to their holders - but as usual, the Killabears team took their own spin and had fun with it. I even got lucky enough to be airdropped a pair of gold socks, which I was able to turn around and sell for 750 USD!

Of course, no drop would truly be complete unless we could interact with them - and of course, the team spun up a new area of the dashboard to equip our socks.
That’s it for today - stay tuned for A Killabears Primer (Part 6) when we get into the Scannerizer and more! Have a great day!
